Sunderland Conceding the Opening Goal Away in the Premier League Data

Posted on: September 19th, 2016 by Jonny Grossmark

A very good point was made on Match of the Day last night which was that Sunderland do not have a Plan B when conceding , and at Spurs in the Second half they simply were sitting too deep which Isolated Defoe.

Sunderland in their last 40 away games in the Premier League when conceding the opening goal , Won 5%, 12.5% ended a draw and they lost 82.5% ( 1/5 )  which would rank Sunderland bottom in PL away conceding data compared to the teams that were in the Premier League last season.

” teams score more goals when they are being led but fewer goals when they are leading,” > the flaw in this conclusion is that  you need to look at the time of the opening goal added to the current score ( game state ) in an individual league  phone in terms of calculating expectation of the team that opens the scoring SURVIVING = holding on to their advantage.
